The Seward Johnson Atelier is pleased to bring 15 life-size bronze sculptures by renowned American artist Seward Johnson to communities across Louisiana’s Northshore as part of Art Imitates Life. Presented by the Covington Public Art Fund, this year-long exhibition places Johnson’s sculptures throughout Covington, Abita Springs, Mandeville, Madisonville, and Olde Towne Slidell.
For Art Imitates Life, the sculptures are thoughtfully situated in public spaces throughout the Northshore, allowing residents and visitors to experience Johnson’s work as part of the everyday landscape. Rather than being contained within a traditional gallery or museum, the sculptures become part of the streets, parks, and gathering places where people live, work, and spend time together.
The exhibition reflects Seward Johnson’s enduring belief in the power of art to engage people in their everyday surroundings. His sculptures encourage viewers to look twice, discover something familiar in an unexpected place, and find moments of connection in the ordinary.
The Seward Johnson Atelier is proud to partner with the Covington Public Art Fund in making this exhibition possible and to share Johnson’s work with communities throughout the Northshore.
Visitors are invited to explore the participating communities and discover all 15 sculptures along the way.
