The Seward Johnson Atelier is pleased to have three sculptures by Seward Johnson featured in Public Art Bridgeville’s annual outdoor sculpture exhibition in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. The exhibition brings sculpture into the public realm, inviting visitors to experience works throughout its community spaces.
This year’s exhibition features Monet, Our Visiting Artist, a new addition to the program, alongside Special Delivery and Crossing Paths, two popular sculptures returning for another year.
Located in Triangle Park, Monet, Our Visiting Artist depicts an artist working at his easel, painting the Bridgeville Area Historical Society History Center. The highly realistic scene reflects Seward Johnson’s longstanding interest in capturing familiar moments and bringing the experience of art-making into everyday life. The sculpture also pays homage to Claude Monet and the Impressionist tradition of painting directly from life.
At the Municipal Building, Special Delivery portrays a postal carrier carrying out his daily route. The sculpture’s approachable realism encourages visitors to pause and look closely at the figure and the story suggested by the scene.
Along Washington Avenue, Crossing Paths features two women seated together on a bench, creating an inviting moment that encourages visitors to engage with the sculpture as they might with real people sharing a conversation. The work’s warmth and humor have made it a returning favorite in Bridgeville.
Together, these sculptures demonstrate Seward Johnson’s ability to transform ordinary moments and familiar figures into engaging public art. Through Public Art Bridgeville, his work becomes part of the everyday landscape, offering residents and visitors opportunities to encounter sculpture as they move through the community.
