Seward Johnson’s sculptures bring familiar moments of everyday life into the streets of Bordentown City, where art becomes part of the experience of walking, gathering, and exploring the downtown.
Presented in partnership with the Bordentown Sculpture Foundation, three of Johnson’s life-size bronze sculptures were installed throughout the city, inviting residents and visitors to encounter his work in unexpected places.
Inner Word, Outer World captures a quiet moment as a man sits on a bench reading his newspaper. At Hilltop Park, Monet, Our Visiting Artist pays homage to Claude Monet as an artist pauses to paint the view around him, creating a playful connection between art, place, and everyday life. Weekend Painter offers another glimpse into a familiar creative moment, bringing Johnson’s signature sense of observation and humor to the streetscape.
Together, the sculptures reflect Johnson’s belief in the power of art to draw our attention to ordinary moments. Rather than asking viewers to enter a museum or gallery, his work meets people where they are, creating opportunities for discovery and connection as part of the everyday landscape.
The exhibition is part of the Bordentown Sculpture Foundation’s ongoing effort to expand access to public art and establish Bordentown City as a destination for sculpture.
