Since 1974 the Seward Johnson Atelier has engaged with both local and international artists at the Hamilton, NJ state of the art facility, to promote sculptural education. Today, education is still a major focus of The Seward Johnson Atelier’s not-for-profit mission and the Atelier offers a range of dynamic and multi-facetted educational programming.

Sample Programs

Teachers will participate in a professional development scratch mold instruction, and return to their schools to create scratch designs with their students. At a later date, after the molds are completed, students will visit TSJA and will be led through the facilities where each stage of creating a Seward Johnson sculpture will be discussed. Following the tour, students will see their artwork come to life in a foundry demonstration. A perfect S.T.E.A.M. experience!
This multi-session introduction to metalworking and welding is focused on creative exploration through metal. Students will learn plasma and oxy-acetylene cutting, MIG welding, grinding & polishing, and other techniques while creating pieces of their own design. No experience needed.
